Cornucopia of autumnal events in Utah

Besides pumpkins and changing leaves, fall in Utah means festivals. Here are some you might want to check out this weekend.

Vietnamese Moon Festival: This annual event is aimed specifically at children and features food, games, prizes, live music, sumo wrestling, fashion shows and delicious ethnic food. It's sponsored by the University of Utah's Vietnamese Student Association in an effort to promote the culture of the southeast Asian nation. Everything is free - from the food and games to the Vietnamese lanterns that will be handed out to kids for an evening parade around the lake.

When: Saturday, 4 to 9 p.m., at the northwest terrace at Sugar House Park, 1330 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City.

Fall Harvest Festival and Heritage Fair: This two-day event in Cache County kicks off tonight with a Folk Band Battle in the middle of a corn maze, and continues Saturday with crafts, old-time carnival games for kids, and a Pioneer Olympics with log-sawing, pie-eating, and buffalo chip tossing. Artisans will demonstrate saddle-making, leather work and other crafts. Handmade products available for purchase will inculde hand-painted gourds, wooden toys, quilts, antler art, goat milk soaps and lotions and Shoshone beadwork.

When: Today, 7 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the American West Heritage Center, Hwy. 89-91 in Wellsville. Admission today is $7, $5 for seniors/youth and includes entry to the festival on Saturday. Saturday-only admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students with ID and seniors, $5 for children 3-12, free for kids under 3. Tickets to a Saturday supper at 5:30 p.m. are $7, $5 for children or $25 for a family of up to 6.
