Posted: 9:09 PM- Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff was hospitalized with a broken leg Saturday after crashing a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He had been preparing for a fundraiser ride today.

Shurtleff was test driving the bike after picking it up at the Harley Davidson dealership in Orem, said Paul Murphy, a spokesman for Shurtleff's office.

He hit a patch of gravel on the roadway and wrecked the bike about 2 p.m., Murphy said. Shurtleff was taken to Timpanogos Regional Hospital and later transported to University Hospital with his left leg broken in two places. The injury may require surgery.

"[Shurtleff] was glad he didn't hurt the motorcycle too bad," Murphy said.

Shurtleff was preparing for a fundraiser motorcycle ride today. The ride is raising money for a new monument to fallen law enforcement officers at the State Capitol. Both Gov. Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. and Shurtleff are scheduled to attend the event, but Shurtleff may miss the ride and planned ceremony.
