As you would expect the weekend before election day, the grassy knoll by Rice-Eccles football stadium was a sea of lawn signs promoting the Salt Lake City mayoral candidates prior Saturday's Utah vs. Air Force game.

Tom Taylor, of Moab, who was in Salt Lake City for the game, noticed about an hour after the game young folks in a pickup truck gathering the Keith Christensen signs and putting them in the truck. Then he noticed some of those volunteers using their feet to break the wooden posts holding the Dave Buhler.

He took pictures.

Knowing Keith Christensen to be an honorable guy, I'm sure he had no knowledge of the activity, but it's too bad you can't always control your volunteers.

Speaking of wayward volunteers: Buhler apparently had enough unbroken signs left over to plant them on the median strips of Foothill Drive and 700 East - which is illegal, according to an ordinance passed by the City Council, on which Buhler sits.

They're everywhere: EnergySolutions, of course, is now the name of the old Delta Center where the Jazz play. EnergySolutions has been seen on uniforms of maintenance workers at Franklin Covey Field and, now, it's on the uniforms of some election judges.

Voters who went to the polls at the Sweet Library branch at 9th Ave. and F Street on Tuesday were greeted by one woman handing out voter key cards and another directing people to open booths.

They both wore shirts bearing the EnergySolutions logo.

Identity crisis? Salt Lake City mayoral candidate Ralph Becker's campaign mailed fliers to voters a few days ago listing the names of prominent women who endorse Becker.

One of the names was Alexis Kelner, a well-known, longtime backcountry skier, adventurer and environmentalist.

Kelner, who indeed endorses Becker, is a man.

Lost in translation? Maybe this is what's wrong with the University of Utah's football team.

Prior to the first home game on Aug. 30, Crimson Club members received a bunch of goodies in the mail from the U.

The gifts included two big "Block U." magnets, a "U." window decal and a big "Go Utes" banner - made in China.

It ain't Utah County: A Salt Lake County-owned pickup truck that is kept at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Salt Lake City for hauling and other odd jobs has this bumper sticker on the back fender: "Make Beer Not Bombs."

Kinds of emergencies: Dawn Davis was on Bountiful's Orchard Drive on Tuesday when she heard sirens, so she pulled over to let the rushing firetruck pass by.

About 10 minutes later, she stopped at Spanky's in Bountiful's Colonial Square for a sandwich and stood in line behind three firefighters, and noticed the firetruck she had earlier pulled over for was sitting in the parking lot.
