The commission also approved a letter of intent to provide $5.5 million in one-time tax abatement to homeowners hit especially hard by skyrocketing property valuations.
The proposed tax abatement - $1 million from the county and $4.5 million from the Davis School District - comes from an unexpected windfall due to last year's tax increase and recent property reassessments.
In their meeting later tonight, the Davis Board of Education is scheduled to consider approving their $4.5 million portion of the abatement.
"It's above and beyond what was budgeted," said Bruce Williams, the district's assistant superintendent. "The administration's recommendation is to cooperate with the county on this issue."
Homeowners who saw more than a 24 percent increase in their property values over the past two years would qualify for a reduction in their tax bill of $100 for every $20,000 over that threshold.
Residents who believe their valuations to be incorrect are still encouraged to file appeals with the County Assessor. That deadline is Sept. 17.
