A gang altercation and police standoff Saturday in Ogden ended with five people wounded by gunfire and eight people arrested. The wounds were minor injuries from shotgun pellets, said Ogden police Lt. Dave Tarran. The events began about 1:15 a.m. near 600 East Canyon View Road. Rival gangs encountered each other there and one person began firing a shotgun, Tarran said. Three members of a rival gang were struck in the upper body and head. Officers tracked the gunman to a house about 1 1/2 blocks away in the 700 East block of 1150 North. Six people followed police instructions to exit the house but others remained inside, Tarran said. A SWAT team later entered the home and found five more people, including the alleged gunman, Tarran said. Police also found two people who were members of the alleged gunman's gang who were struck unintentionally by pellets. Tarran said eight people were arrested on suspicion of offenses ranging from felony rioting to attempted murder for the alleged shooter.
