4 a.m. Wake up

4:20 a.m. Matins & Lauds - Each day begins with prayers and the singing of psalms.

6 a.m. Angelus/Low Mass

6:30 a.m. Contemplative prayer

7:30 a.m. Prime (prayers offered in first hour of daylight)

7:45 a.m. Breakfast

8 a.m. Spiritual reading

8:45 a.m. Rosary

9:15 a.m. Chores

10 a.m. Terce (midmorning prayer)

10:15 a.m. Conventual High Mass

11:45 a.m. Sext (the fourth of seven canonical hours observed with prayer)

12 p.m. Angelus/dinner

1 p.m. Recreation - Silence is lifted, and the monks are free to, for example, talk, toss a football or play in the snow.

1:45 p.m. None (afternoon prayer)

2 p.m. Manual work

3 p.m. Hour of Mercy - The monks mark the time when Jesus died with prayers and penance so souls can be saved and the world converted.

6 p.m. Vespers (evening prayer)

6:30 p.m. Contemplative prayer

7:30 p.m. Angelus/Collation - a bell announces this thrice-daily prayer (Angelus) to honor the Incarnation, when the human and the divine were joined in Christ. During meals - collation is the last of the day - one monk offers religious readings while the others eat in silence.

8:15 p.m. Compline (night prayer)

8:45 p.m. Solitude

9:30 p.m. Retire
