Posted: 5:55 PM- A former Cyprus High School English teacher was charged Tuesday with three counts of forcible sexual abuse for allegedly having sex with one of her students.

Police said Christy Anne Brown, 33, had sex with the 17-year-old student at least three times between April 8 and Sunday, when she was arrested by West Valley City police.

An officer came across Brown and the student in a car parked near 2900 South and 5600 West early Sunday morning, police said.

"[The officer] checked it out, and something said, 'Houston, we have a problem,'" Capt. Tom McLachlan said.

The teacher remained in Salt Lake County jail Tuesday in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Brown had quit her job at Cyprus High June 1 after two years at the school, according to the Granite School District. She told police she planned to move to Houston for a new teaching job, McLachlan said.

"It's extremely troubling," district spokesman Randy Ripplinger said. "That was a surprise to everyone at the school."
