Updated: 9:14 AM- Lightning in Cache County and near the Arizona-Utah border set off two wildfires Thursday that could threatened homes.

A lightning strike near Cold Water Ranch sparked a wildfire that quickly grew to 200 acres and could threaten homes, according to Cache County Fire Chief Gary Roberts.

Firefighters arrived to find 50 acres of grass and brush burning along Ant Flat Road, but wind kicked up and allowed it to spread, Roberts said. Crews continued to fight back flames today.

Lightning also started a 250-acre wildfire in the North Kaibab Ranger District near the border of Utah and Arizona that could threaten homes in Jacob Lake, Ariz. The fire, west of the Kaibab Plateau, is burning grass, brush, shrubs, pinyon and juniper and threatening deer habitats, according to Scott Clemans, spokesman for the Kaibab National Forest.

The Kaibab National Forest has requested the type-two Northern Arizona Incident Management Team to take over, Clemans said. The fire could spread northeast toward Warm Springs Canyon, which leads up to the developed areas around Jacob Lake, Clemans said.
