Posted: 7:16 AM- ST. GEORGE - Scott Burns, former Iron County attorney, has been nominated by President Bush to be a deputy drug czar.

In an article published today, Rasael Lemaitre, White House Drug Policy Office deputy press secretary, told the Spectrum newspaper that Burns would be overseeing all drug control programs.

Since 2002, Burns had been working as the deputy director of state, local and tribal affairs for the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Burns, 49, is a Cedar City native.

"Our biggest hurdle is the cynicism of people on losing the war on drugs," Burns said. "But now young people get it that they don't want to fry their brain."
