Private club

Bayou honored for being smoke-free ahead of deadline

The Bayou became a smoke-free private club in April, almost two years before required by state law.

In honor of that proactive approach, the club at 645 S. State St. in Salt Lake City will be honored Thursday by the state Department of Health and the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Utah.

The recognition ceremony, which runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., coincides with Thursday being designated by the World Health Organization as "World No Tobacco Day." The international agency is encouraging countries and governments across the globe to make indoor environments 100 percent smoke free.
