Armed with a dominating inside game and the return of veteran Derek Fisher, the Jazz beat Golden State 127-117 in overtime of Game 2 of the NBA's Western Conference semifinals at EnergySolutions Arena on Wednesday night in another tight and exhausting finish.
After returning dramatically in the third quarter from dealing with the discovery of a tumor between the eye and brain of his 10-month-old daughter, Fisher buried a crucial three-pointer with 1:06 left in overtime and later hit two free throws to clinch the victory.
Carlos Boozer made four straight free throws in the final two minutes, after teammate Deron Williams forced overtime with a pull-up jumper with 2.3 seconds left that tied the game 113-113. Golden State's Baron Davis missed a long fallaway jumper off the front of the rim as the horn sounded.
But Boozer scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Jazz, while Andrei Kirilenko scored 20 points, blocked 6 shots - he had seven blocks in Game 1 - and even played point guard for awhile, when rookie guard Dee Brown was hurt, Deron Williams was in foul trouble, and Fisher was still missing.
Brown suffered a neck injury in the first quarter that required a trip to the hospital.
Fisher returned to a roaring ovation late in the third quarter, after leaving the team before Game 1 to deal with the discovery of a tumor between the eye and brain of his 10-month-old daughter. He forced a critical Davis turnover late in the fourth quarter, and kept a hand in Davis' face as he missed the potential game-winning shot at the fourth-quarter horn.
Brown was injured when teammate Mehmet Okur fell on Brown's head in a rebounding scramble in the first quarter, and had to be helped gingerly from the floor. Neurological tests and X-rays were normal, the Jazz said, but Brown did not return.
