Posted: 7:51 AM- The Internet Revenue Service is warning Utah residents about a new Internet scam that seeks personal information from taxpayers.

The IRS says e-mails are being sent to consumers, which directs them to a Web site that requests personal and financial information, such as, bank account and credit card numbers. However, the agency says it doesn't send out unsolicited e-mails or ask for financial information.

The IRS has created an e-mail account to investigate possible fraudulent e-mails. The agency says nearly 18,000 suspicious e-mails have been reported since phishing@irs.gov was established.
