Posted: 3:54 PM- Michigan State's Jim Boylen will be introduced as the next head coach of the University of Utah men's basketball team Tuesday, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned.

The Utes have called a press conference for Tuesday at 3 p.m., though they did not confirm the identity of the new coach which was first reported by The Tribune Monday morning.

The 41-year-old Boylen is in his second year as an assistant to head coach Tom Izzo at Michigan State. Well-regarded as an astute strategic coach, he worked for 13 seasons as an assistant coach in the NBA, primarily with the Houston Rockets.

Hiring Boylen will conclude a 3 1/2-week search for a replacement for Ray Giacoletti, who was forced to resign after an 11-19 season - the worst in 23 years. Boylen had been a top target of athletic director Chris Hill since Hill could not lure Larry Krystkowiak from the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

Boylen could not be reached for comment Monday, and the Utes said Hill will not comment until the press conference.
