An 18-year-old woman was recovering Friday from injuries she suffered when a bowling ball fell on her head from atop a flag pole.

Elise Fredericksen and five other college-age friends were in a private park in the Box Elder County town of Thatcher when friends shaking a flag pole dislodged the ball that struck her, said Chief Deputy Kevin Potter.

She was flown to University Hospital in Salt Lake City and was in fair condition on Friday afternoon, said a hospital spokes- woman.

Marble Park, named after its creator, Boyd Marble, contains antiques such as horse-drawn carriages, and some eclectic artwork, including the flag pole with a bowling ball secured by brackets to look like a crown, Marble's wife, Cheryl, said.

"You'd have to see it to believe it," Potter said of the park.

Cheryl Marble said her husband created the park in 1990 and has let people enjoy it ever since. It was the first accident at the park, she said.

"It's just a freak thing that's too bad," said Randy Marble, Boyd's son.

The county attorney will review the case to determine if any of Fredericksen's friends will face charges, Potter said. But charges are unlikely, he added.

As for Boyd Marble, "He wants his bowling ball back," Randy Marble said.
