Posted: 3:13 PM- The man accused of murdering Destiny Norton was sentenced Monday to spend the rest of his life in prison.

In a hearing before 3rd District Judge Robin Reese, Craig Roger Gregerson pleaded guilty as charged to capital murder and child kidnapping in the abduction and death of the 5-year-old girl, who disappeared from the yard of her central Salt Lake City home on July 16.

Destiny's body was discovered eight days later in the basement of Gregerson's adjacent apartment. She had been smothered and her body sexually abused post-mortem.

For his guilty plea Monday, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty against Gregerson. Instead, they asked Reese to impose a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder.

Reese agreed and also added a term of 15 years to life for the child kidnapping charge.
