Posted: 8:03 AM- Plans to build an LDS temple in South Jordan have been given the green light.

The South Jordan Planning Commission gave its OK this week to the temple, which will be built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Officials say the plans for the 60,000-square-foot temple meet all of the city's engineering, planning, public works and fire department requirements.

This will be South Jordan's second temple, and will be built at 11022 South and 4000 West, just off Bangerter Highway.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Dec 16.

The LDS Church currently has 124 temples worldwide, with 10 others announced or under construction.
