Posted: 9:38 AM- Prosecutors have charged a Monticello couple who allegedly took their daughter on a long drive against her will to keep her from getting married with kidnapping.

Lemuel Redd, 61, and Julia Redd, 58, were each charged with second degree felony kidnapping Friday, according to court records.

Their daughter, Julianna Redd, and her parents left Provo to go shopping about 11 a.m. on Aug. 4 but didn't return for the dinner they were supposed to have with the groom's family that evening, Provo police Capt. Rick Healey said.

The groom, Perry Myers, a BYU student from New Braunfels, Texas, called police. The parents hadn't been in favor of the marriage, Healy said.

Redd's parents took her against her will, police said, and they spent the night in Grand Junction, Colo. They returned to Provo on Saturday - after their daughter was supposed to have participated in a wedding ceremony in an LDS temple.

The couple are scheduled to make an initial appearance Oct. 26 before Judge Claudia Laycock in Provo.
