The post-concussion headaches that three-time Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey was experiencing Tuesday seemingly were of no concern to New York Giants safeties Gibril Wilson and Will Demps.

When a receiver comes into the middle of New York's secondary, they are going to pay a price this season.

Unfortunately for Shockey, he was the one to take a shot from Demps on Monday night, and it forced him to miss practice on Tuesday with a mild concussion.

Demps downplayed the collision, saying that both players were going for the pass thrown by Eli Manning and that there was contact. Replays showed Demps' elbow hitting Shockey's facemask, sending the receiver hard to the ground, where he lay for about a minute.

When he got up, Shockey pointed angrily to Demps, who signed with New York in the offseason after four seasons in Baltimore.

''I was going for the ball and the outcome, you guys saw it,'' Demps said. ''We met at the same time. If it was one of those ones where if I really wanted to hit him, I could, but why would I want to do that?''

Demps said he tried to ask Shockey how he was immediately after the play was over, but the flamboyant tight end seemed to ignore him. Two plays later, the evening practice ended and Shockey threw his helmet in disgust.

A day later, Demps felt there was no need to say he was sorry.

''We were both going for a play,'' Demps said. ''It is what it is. It's a mild concussion. It's football.''

Shockey was not available for comment on Tuesday.

Bush league

Reggie Bush trotted onto the field in style, with sparkling gold-rimmed shoes and gold-tipped cleats - a fitting entrance for the super-hyped rookie in his first practice of training camp.

Bush agreed to a six-year contract that could pay him up to $62 million, but the Heisman Trophy winner out of Southern California didn't arrive at the New Orleans Saints' training camp until Monday evening, delaying his first on-field appearance.

Tweaked hammie

Michael Vick left the Atlanta Falcons' practice with a tweaked hamstring Tuesday night, but coach Jim Mora doesn't expect the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback to miss more than two days.

Vick needed no assistance as he walked off the field after pulling up during a team drill with 45 minutes remaining in the two-hour session. On his way to the locker room, Vick indicated his right leg was a little sore, but he insisted, ''It's no big deal.''

Around the league

Cardinals: Arizona signed running back Diamond Ferri, who played with the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe last spring. The club also released tackle Dante Ellington.

Chargers: San Diego cut receiver Rashaun Woods, giving general manager A.J. Smith nothing to show for his initial first-round pick.

Woods was acquired from the 49ers in the offseason for disappointing cornerback Sammy Davis.

During the 2003 draft, his first as GM, Smith passed on future Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu and traded down with Philadelphia, getting Davis with the 30th overall pick and safety Terrence Kiel in the second round.

Jaguars: Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones is expected to miss most of this week's practices with a moderate ankle sprain.

Redskins: Washington wideout David Patten missed the first two days of training camp while hospitalized with a viral infection.
