- Through Saturday, donate to the Food for Life effort in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. Contact the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, 801-787-1510.

- Monticello High School's Student Association of Volunteer Youth is collecting monetary donations to aid storm-impacted school districts in Louisiana and Mississippi. Through Oct. 15, donations are being accepted at Monticello High School or any Zions Bank. Checks can be made out to MHS - Care A Lot. - Affected veterans, service members and their families can be aided via the Veterans of Foreign Wars Web site, https://www.vfw.org.

- The Salt Lake Branch of the NAACP is coordinating job and housing opportunities for the hurricane survivors at Camp Williams. Contact President Jeanetta Williams, 801-250-5088.

- Through Sept. 30, Atria Senior Living Communities is collecting school supplies for children displaced by Hurricane Katrina. - Many small businesses in the storm-affected area took a big hit. - Sept. 24 - A community yard-and-bake sale will be held at Daybreak Community Association Office, 11347 S. Kestrel Rise Road, South Jordan.
