The Utah Genius awards were presented Wednesday to people, organizations and cities that contributed to a record-breaking year in 2009 for patents awarded to Utahns.

Sheri Dew, CEO of Deseret Book, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her "ongoing commitment to promoting creativity in this state by providing a wide range of creative content," said Randall Bateman, founder of the Bateman IP Law Group.

His firm, along with Utah CEO magazine, sponsored the awards at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. Other sponsors included GoEngineer, KUER, Salt Lake Chamber, The Enterprise , Daily Herald , SNG PR Valley Entrepreneurial Forum, Silicon Slopes and ACG Utah.
