A 10-year-old Alpine boy is continuing to recover from injuries after being hit by a vehicle Friday.

The accident occurred about 8 p.m near 400 North Whitby Woodlands Drive. when the boy was sitting on the trunk of a vehicle while a 16-year-old boy was driving the car, said Lone Peak Police Sgt. Dave Boerner.

As the 16-year-old drove in reverse, the 10-year-old fell off the trunk and was run over, Boerner said.

He said investigators are determining exactly why the boy was riding on the trunk, but it appears the incident was an accident. He said the 16-year-old and 10-year-old knew each other and other children were in the vehicle as the accident unfolded.

The boy was transported to American Fork Hospital before being flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in serious condition. He is expected to survive his injuries, Boerner said.
