Walt Disney Resorts to open first Hawaii destination resort in 2011

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will open the first phase of its first family destination resort in Hawaii in the fall of 2011.

The resort, which will be located at the Ko Olina Resort & Marina on the western side of Oahu, will be called Alani A Disney Resort and Spa.

The resort will include hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club timeshare villas on a 21-acre oceanfront property that overlooks white sand beaches and blue lagoons.

The resort is designed to honor the local culture of the Hawaiian Islands. It will feature a village celebrating Hawaiian customs. It will include 360 hotel rooms and 481 Disney Vacation Club two-bedroom equivalent timeshare villas along with an 18,000-square foot spa, a 14,545 square-foot conference center and 48,685 square feet of outdoor venues as well as two on-site restaurants. It is expected to employ 1,000 workers.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts operates 38 resort hotels with more than 35,000 hotel rooms around the world.
