Police have identified an 18-year-old man killed Friday in a car crash on U.S. Highway 89 in Harrisville.

Robert Michael Flores was driving a black Mitsubishi four-door car north at a speed of up to 100 miles an hour, said Police Chief Max Jackson. Near 900 North, he swerved into the center median to pass other cars.

His car slid on ice, spun into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck.

"The car was sheared in half. The rear portion of the car welded to the pickup and the front portion launched another 94 yards up the highway," Jackson said.

A mile of the highway was closed for several hours after the 8 p.m. crash, he said. The pickup driver suffered minor injuries. He was treated at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden and released.
