A construction mishap brought Interstate 80 to a standstill Friday morning after a fiber optic communications line strung across the highway was severed.
Comcast spokesman Ray Child said the company was informed the line was severed at 10:20 a.m.
The Utah Department of Transportation said traffic near 1300 East was either blocked or slowed to a trickle until the line was removed from the roadway about 3 p.m.
The fiber optic line serves Rose Park, West Valley City, Grantsville, Tooele and Kearns customers with cable television, high-speed Internet and digital phone service, Child said.
Child said service was restored about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
