National Finals Rodeo: Wright moves up in saddle bronc

Reigning world champion saddle bronc rider Cody Wright of Milford finished tied for second in Round 5 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on Monday night.

J.J. Elshere of Quinn, S.D., won the round with a score of 88. Wright shared second place with Wade Sundell of Boxholm, Iowa, after posting an 86.5.

Wright, the reigning world champion, earned $11,887 and moved into second place in the average standings halfway through the 10-round NFR.

In bareback riding, Bobby Mote of Culver, Ore., tied Jared Smith in Round 5 with a score of 88.5. Kaycee Feild of El Ridge was seventh after posting an 85, but he maintained a comfortable lead in the average.

In tie-down roping, Cody Ohl of Hico, Texas, and Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, were co-winners in the fifth round with times of 7.1 seconds. Spanish Fork's Clint Robinson was timed in 12.2 seconds. He tied for 12th and dropped from first to third in the average.

In bull riding, not one cowboy finished an eight-second round, including Steve Woolsey of Payson.

Other winners in the fifth round included Lee Graves of Calgary in steer wrestling, Sherry Cervi of Marana, Ariz., in barrel racing and Riley and Brady Minor of Ellensburg, Wash., in team roping.
