Rodeo: Robinson leads Utah cowboys

Clint Robinson of Spanish Fork was Utah's top finisher in the first round of the 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Robinson ended up in a three-way tie for third in the tie-down roping with a time of 7.8 seconds. He earned $7,279 for his effort. Josh Peek of Pueblo, Colo., won the event with a time of 7.5 seconds.

In saddle bronc riding, defending world champion Cody Wright of Milford placed 10th with a score of 78.5. Taos Muncy of Corona, N.M., finished first with a score of 86.

In the bareback riding, Kaycee Feild of Elk Ridge scored an 82.5, but that was only good enough for eighth place. Jason Havens of Prineville, Ore., and Justin McDaniel of Porum, Okla., tied for first with scores of 86.

In bull riding, Payson's Steve Woolsey did not score. Kanin Asay of Powell, Wyo., won the first round with a score of 89.
