The Utah Highway Patrol has identified Rachel Vigil, 16, as the Layton girl who died in a traffic crash late Tuesday on U.S. 89 in Kaysville.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. near 400 North when, for reasons unknown, Vigil's northbound 1993 Honda Accord swerved to the left and crashed into a 2003 Suzuki Vitara. The second vehicle, also northbound, was waiting to make a left turn; the Vitara flipped, landing on its tires along the west side of the road, according to the UHP.

After the crash, Vigil's vehicle careened into the southbound lanes, smashing into an oncoming Ford F-250 pickup. Vigil's car also was hit by a second pickup, a southbound Ford F-150.

Vigil died at the scene. The drivers of the Vitara and the second pickup truck had non-life-threatening injuries, the UHP reported.

Traffic was stopped for nearly four hours after the crash.
