Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is scheduled to make a stop in Utah as part of a nationwide tour touting her new book, Going Rogue .

Publisher HarperCollins said on its Web site that Palin will appear Dec. 9 at Salt Lake City's Costco store, 1818 S. 300 West.

At the first stop on the tour Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich., more than 1,000 people lined up, including those who camped out the night before, to get a moment with Palin. During the hours-long wait, some broke into chants of "Palin! Palin! Palin," The Associated Press reported.

Palin, then a relative unknown, stormed onto the political scene when former presidential candidate John McCain tapped her to be his running mate in 2008. Within hours, the former mayor of Wasila became a household name and favorite among conservatives who admired her moxie.

While critics said she lacked the depth of knowledge and experience expected of someone who would be second in command of the country, conservatives embraced her. And many continue to tout her as a top contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
