Moon has recently updated its Costa Rica Handbook providing details on traveling to the popular Central American destination that draws 1.5 million visitors each year.

The new 682-page $21.95 paperback written by Christopher Baker contains the kind of detail Moon guides are renowned for. It provides an in-depth look at local flora and fauna, the best beaches, information on marine turtles, border crossing, whitewater rafting and gay-friendly travel.

Regions covered in the new edition include San Jose, the central Highlands, the Caribbean Coast, the Northern Zone, Guanacaste and the Northwest, The Nicoya Peninsula, central Pacific, Golfo Dulce and the Osa Peninsula, and south-central Costa Rica.

The book contains several tour and trip ideas, an off-the-beaten-path itinerary, a family adventure tour and an overview of top places to spot wildlife.

It also features 71 detailed maps, a 24-page color section and a Spanish phrasebook.
