The free, mandatory shuttle service for the Canyon Scenic Drive in Zion National Park has ended for the season. The canyon is now open to general traffic, but a voluntary shuttle service will continue on weekends through November.

The shuttle will also be available on Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday. The buses will start running from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center at 10 a.m. The last bus will leave the Temple of Sinawava at 5:30 p.m., the Lodge at 5:44 p.m., and arrive at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center at 6 p.m. Shuttle service frequency will be approximately every 14 minutes. Round trips from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center to the Temple of Sinawava will take about 70 minutes. The shuttle buses will not be running in Springdale. All shuttle bus operation will end on Nov. 29.

Iron Mission Days

The recently renamed Frontier Homestead Park Museum in Cedar City is holding its annual Iron Mission days Nov. 7-11. Events include living history and pioneer craft demonstrations, family handcart pulls, guided tours of historic Cedar City cemetery and historic lectures. Frontier Homestead State Park Museum tells the story of development in Iron County when, in the 1850s, Brigham Young sent Mormon missionaries there to mine and process iron. Museum displays include horse-drawn vehicles used from 1850 to 1920, and a collection of pioneer artifacts. An iron industry exhibit features the only known remaining artifact from the original foundry, the town bell.

New displays have been added, including the Rass Jones Sheep Shed and timber sawmill, pioneer schoolhouse, Paiute native camp, and recently completed blast furnace.

Frontier Homestead State Park Museum is at 635 N. Main in Cedar City. For more information, call 435-586-9290.
