A base jumper found last month in Millard County died after his parachute did not open in time, the sheriff there said.

LeRoy Buckley, 31, of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., was missing for nearly 10 days before searchers found his body Sept. 17 in the Notch Peak area of the county. Millard County Sheriff Robert Dekker on Wednesday said Buckley's quick-release parachute did not fully deploy and Buckley fell to his death.

Dekker did not know why the parachute failed.
