A 54-year-old North Ogden woman died Wednesday after her SUV was struck by a pickup truck as she pulled out of a grocery store parking lot.
Candace Layton left the Lee's Market near 325 E. 2600 North and tried to make a left-hand turn about 6 p.m., said North Ogden police Capt. Kevin Warren.
She apparently did not see a westbound 1500 Dodge Ram pickup truck, Warren said. The 19-year-old man driving the pickup tried to swerve, but could not avoid Layton's Toyota Land Cruiser and hit her on the driver's side.
Layton was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital, where she died. The pickup truck driver was treated for minor injuries and released from the same hospital.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and both were alone in their vehicles. The 19-year-old was driving about 40 mph in a 55 mph zone, so speed and road conditions do not appear to be factors, Warren said. The crash is under investigation, but charges or citations do not appear likely, Warren said.
