A Salt Lake City man who drowned Saturday in Idaho has been identified as Michael G. Ashe, 57.

Ashe died on the south fork of the Payette River near Garden Valley, Idaho. About 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Ashe and his brother were floating on inner tubes when they encountered a log jam. Ashe was pulled underneath and his brother grabbed hold of the jam and stayed above water, said Boise County Sheriff Ben Roeber.

Other rafters arrived to help the surviving brother. The sheriff said the victim was found downstream and the rafters were unable to revive him with CPR. Neither Ashe nor his brother were wearing life jackets, Roeber said.
