The University of Utah has named architect Myron Willson to head its Office of Sustainability, replacing the late Craig Forster, the planning professor who initiated the program but died last year in a hiking accident.
Under new earth-friendly initiatives, U. President Michael Young had tapped Forster to lead campus-wide efforts to reduce waste and energy use and develop strategies to reduce the university's environmental impact.
At the time of his death in December, he was working on a proposal to establish an interdisciplinary center for the study of sustainability.
As a registered architect with a wealth of experience in sustainability principles and green design in an institutional setting, Willson is well-positioned to continue Forster's work, said Michael Perez, the U.'s vice president for facilities.
Willson has a master's degree from the U. and has served as adjunct faculty in the College of Architecture and Planning.
He assumes his new post July 8.
