Part of southbound Interstate 15 in Farr West was closed for about 2 1/2 hours Sunday after two vehicles crashed, injuring eight people.
None of the injuries appear fatal, said Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Brian Hyer.
The accident happened about 10:20 a.m. near milepost 349. The driver of a northbound Dodge Ram pickup carrying six people tried to change lanes without seeing another car. When the 55-year-old woman saw the car, she pulled back into her lane, but over-corrected and crossed the median into the southbound lanes. The truck collided head-on with a Pontiac Grand Prix. The pickup flipped and landed on its roof in a ditch filled with water.
The driver's head was submerged, but a man passing by stopped and held her head above water until emergency crews arrived.
"The man's quick action to stop and help the driver is truly commendable," Hyer said. She was flown by medical helicopter to McKay-Dee Hospital Center, and a 38-year-old female passenger was flown to Intermountain Medical Center .
Also in the pickup was a brother and sister, both 13, and two small girls, ages 3 and 5. All were taken to McKay-Dee with minor injuries, Hyer said.
The driver of the Grand Prix, a 41-year-old woman, was flown to Ogden Regional Medical Center and her 14-year-old female passenger was taken there by ambulance, both in serious but stable condition.
Everyone in both cars were wearing seat belts and the children were in safety seats, Hyer said.
The interstate reopened about 1 p.m.
