An Orem man died Saturday in a one vehicle rollover crash in Cache County's Sardine Canyon.

Rogelio Gallegos, 38, was driving on U.S. Highway 89/91 about two miles north of Wellsville when he drove off the road and his car rolled down an embankment around 10 a.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ted Tingey.

Witnesses told police after the crash that they had observed Gallegos driving recklessly prior to the crash, Tingey said. The man was weaving through traffic and passing vehicles in the emergency lane, he said.

Before Gallegos rolled his white Mazda Protege, he drifted toward a cement barrier in the middle of U.S. Highway 89/91. When he swerved to get back on the road, he drove off on a shoulder and then rolled the car, which landed in a stream at the bottom of the embankment, Tingey said.

Gallegos, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

Tingey said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
