Fearing her boyfriend would leave her if she didn't get rid of her baby, a pregnant teen paid a Naples man $150 to beat her until she miscarried the child, according to charges against the man.

The charges filed Friday describe the attack in Arron Harrison's darkened bedroom, where he allegedly hit and bit the 17-year-old girl, who is seven months pregnant.

Harrison, 21, was charged with attempted homicide, a second-degree felony that carries a potential prison sentence of one to 15 years.

Deputy Uintah County Attorney Mike Drechsel said prosecutors are still mulling charges against the girl.

The beating happened after midnight Wednesday at Harrison's home near 1900 East and 2500 South in Naples, according to a probable cause statement filed with 8th District Court.

The girl initially told police she was taking a walk after an argument with her boyfriend when she was suddenly attacked by an unknown person, the statement said. She was missing her jacket and a shoe when her parents picked her up. She had a bite mark on her throat and belly along with several bruises, according to the statement.

But when police tried to take a saliva sample from the girl's neck, she admitted her boyfriend had told her he would break up with her unless she "got rid of" the baby, the statement said.

The girl allegedly told police she was planning to hitchhike to Florida when she ran across Harrison on the street. She said she didn't know Harrison before the meeting, but asked him if he believed in God and abortion, then if he would help her "terminate the baby," according to the statement.

She said Harrison invited her into his home, where she lay on his bed and asked him to turn off the lights so she couldn't see him hit her, the statement said. He punched her in the stomach five times, slapped her on the face and bit her neck, she told police, adding that she wanted it to look like an accident or assault.

The girl gave Harrison $150 and left, the statement said.

Police drove the teen to the hospital to check on the baby. Monitors showed the baby was OK, but the teen was kept at the hospital. A mental health worker was called in after the girl threatened to kill herself, the statement said.

Police later interviewed Harrison, who claimed the girl had tried to kiss him several times when they were outside his house, according to the statement. He said he bit her on the neck and then punched her in the stomach accidentally while trying to get away.

After she kept coming after him, he pushed her in the stomach and she fell down on the front doorsteps, Harrison told police.

But Harrison later admitted to investigators he knew the girl was trying to kill the baby, and that he hit her in the stomach to help her, the statement said. He first denied taking money from the girl, but later said he felt bad about accepting it and threw it into a canal.

The 17-year-old is being held in juvenile detention.
