A special forces solder received serious injuries Saturday when a grenade exploded at Dugway Proving Ground.

There was no immediate information about soldier's condition as of Monday morning and few details about the accident.

Dugway Proving Ground spokeswoman Paula Nicholson said the soldier was part of an Army special forces unit from Fort Bragg, N.C. The soldiers are training in Utah before deploying to Afghanistan, she said.

The soldier pulled the pin on a grenade and it exploded, Nicholson said.

"The injuries were significant enough that they felt like they needed to fly him up to the University of Utah [Hospital]," Nicholson said.
