A witness has come forward with information that reopens a 33-year-old homicide investigation.
According to court documents filed Monday, the witness repeated statements a suspect allegedly made years ago relating to the death of Kathy Harmon. Harmon's body was found March 6, 1976, between Emigration Canyon and Mountain Dell, north of Interstate 80.
Harmon, then 22, last had been seen March 2 at the Better Days Bar, then at 726 S. State St. Her husband, a long-distance truck driver, was out of town.
No suspects were arrested, though investigators are pursuing multiple leads and looking at multiple persons of interest, said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.
Detectives are testing the DNA of two people of interest against DNA found under Harmon's fingernails and on the waistband of her pants, which were found, inside-out, 287 feet from her body.
The Tribune is not identifying the witness to protect the witness from retaliation.
