ST. GEORGE - A fugitive accused of rape and sexual abuse of a child has been captured by Washington County sheriff's deputies.
The Spectrum reported Friday that Richard Kyle Werner had been arrested in 2006 on charges of three counts of rape of a child and sex abuse of a then 13-year-old girl. The alleged incidents took place in Ivins, court records state.
Authorities say Werner, now 23, failed to appear for a preliminary hearing in January 2007 or a jury trial in August 2008. In November 2008 Werner's case was called before the judge but Werner did not appear and a $50,000 cash only arrest warrant was issued.
Deputy Chief Rob Tersigni said Werner was arrested Wednesday, and bail was set at $100,000, cash only.
