A Pleasant Grove woman died and her 10-year-old grandson was airlifted to a hospital Saturday afternoon after a collision on Interstate 15, police said.
Liliya M. Barinova, 61, was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound in the Ogden area about 3 p.m. when she tried to change from the middle lane to the right lane, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Blaine Robbins.
She did not see another car in the right lane until the last minute, and pulled the car back into the middle lane. But the car slid and turned until it was facing westward, Robbins said. A Ford F-350 truck heading north hit the car broadside on the driver's side. Barinova was killed instantly. Her grandson, who lives in Providence, was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center by helicopter. Both were wearing seat belts. The grandson suffered a broken arm, but was in good condition Saturday evening, Robbins said. No one in the truck was injured.
