South Salt Lake police are investigating whether a man who robbed a market at gunpoint Thursday evening may be connected to a similar robbery at a Korean restaurant earlier this week.

Police responded to an armed robbery at Gevorg's International Market, 2715 S. State St., at 6:12 p.m., said South Salt Lake police Lt. Gary Keller. A store clerk told police a man entered the market and pointed a black handgun at him, then ordered him to the floor.

The robber, described as white with short blond hair and approximately 5-feet-7-inches tall and wearing a yellow hooded jacket, then walked behind the store's counter and stole cash from a register, Keller said. He then left on foot.

Police cordoned off an area west of Main Street and 2750 South for about an hour and a half as a K-9 unit searched. A South Salt Lake officer had noticed a man matching a description of the robber in that area, but the search didn't result in any arrests.

Keller said the robbery was carried out in a way that resembled how the Jang Soo Jang Korean Restaurant in South Salt Lake was held up Monday. In that case, a man entered the restaurant, brandished a gun and left with cash. The man escaped on a bicycle.

Anyone with information relating to either robbery can contact South Salt Lake police at 801-840-4000.
