A storm sweeping in from the Pacific Northwest is expected to bring wind, a chill and moisture to northern Utah, beginning with Tuesday's evening commute.

Alta and Brighton resorts could see up to 5 inches of snow, while the valleys will get rain and the benches will have a mix of both, said Steve Rogowski, a forecaster for the National Weather Service's Salt Lake City office.

"We're not looking for much in the valleys," he said.

"It's a very fast-moving system."

A second, weak system alights in northern Utah on Thursday but the likelihood of precipitation is low -- about 20 percent. Breezy weather is expected, said Rogowski. By the weekend, temperatures will be around 50.

The temperature at the Salt Lake International Airport was 55 at 4 p.m. Monday, more than 10 degrees above average. The record high for Dec. 1 was 68 degrees in 1995. The record low was 0 in 1896.

As the front moves in Tuesday, forecasted temperatures will be about 50. They will drop to the mid-40s until the weekend. And nighttime lows will be around freezing from Tuesday through the weekend.
