Parents traveling with youngsters three to seven years of age might want to check out the Poingo book system.

The pen-shaped Poingo is used to touch pictures or the text of books that bring characters to life with words, sounds and music.

Poingo comes with earphones or can be connected to head phones.

The starter set, which sells for $39.95, comes with two hardcover books. One package includes the movies "Cars" and "Finding Nemo." Four other titles are available.

Be prepared to go through security

Paying attention to security when flying during the holiday season can save time as well as protect valuable gifts. Whelan Security, one of the top 10 security companies in the United States, has some tips to ensure quick movement through security.

The company said travelers should not wrap gifts because random searches may result in security unwrapping packages to look at the contents. Do not overpack bags, largely because trying to close an overstuffed bag can be difficult and may result in a delay. Do not lock your bag unless you have a Transportation Security Administration-accepted lock. A search might result in cutting an alternative lock. When traveling with children, let them know what might happen as they approach security because they will need to part with such things as stuffed animals or blankets.
