Old Crow Medicine Show

Show of the week » Old Crow Medicine Show's latest album, "Tennessee Pusher," was produced by famed producer Don Was, whose first phone call to the band was received with exuberance, said OCMS frontman Ketch Secor in an interview. Although Was, legendary session drummer Jim Keltner and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench added muscle and depth, the album still has the feel of 1930s honky-tonk bluegrass, with three-part, high lonesome vocal harmonies and fiddles, banjos and upright basses. The band only covered one song this album ("Lift Him Up" by Blind Alfred Reed), but Secor said, "When you play traditional songs, it doesn't seem to be like a cover," because of the band's interest in reinventing the original tune.
