Posted: 7:50 AM- WOODS CROSS - Several northern Utah cities are working to turn the state's Legacy Parkway into a National Scenic Byway.
Woods Cross City Manager Gary Uresk says the designation would give the highway some recognition and attract tourists. It would also make Legacy eligible to receive Federal Highway Administration funds.
The 14-mile Legacy Parkway would be the state's seventh National Scenic Byway. The application to get the status is due by Dec. 17.
Officials say federal money could fund things like informational kiosks, maps and trailhead displays.
Uresk says a decision on Legacy's status probably won't come until well into 2009.
