Posted: 10:44 AM- A fire destroyed two vacant houses on 900 West in Salt Lake City early today. The blaze started at about midnight in one of three vacant houses in a residential area between 400 and 500 South on 900 West, said Salt Lake City fire Capt. Karleen Montanez.
The flames quickly spread to a second house, and neighbors nearby likely called 911, she said.
Firefighters doused the blaze in about an hour, but both homes were a total loss. The damage was estimated at $100,000 to $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. - Lindsay Whitehurst
