A morning fire damaged 13 apartments, driving about 35 people from their homes in Midvale on Saturday.
The two-alarm blaze at 145 W. Plumtree Lane (6905 South) started at about 8 a.m., said Midvale Fire battalion chief Warren James.
It started at an apartment on the east side of the 24-unit complex and moved west, he said. Neighbors knocked on one another's doors and almost everyone had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, James said. No one was injured. The cause is still being investigated.
The blaze was quenched by about 9 a.m., and six Red Cross disaster volunteers worked to find shelter for the displaced families, spokeswoman Susan Thomas said.
