Yellowstone National Park's winter season begins Dec. 17 with the opening of the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, but now is a good time to begin making reservations if you plan to visit America's oldest national park this winter.

Yellowstone National Park Lodges, operated by Xanterra Parks & Resorts, will be offering six Lodging and Learning packages this winter in conjunction with the nonprofit Yellowstone Association Institute. Each program includes accommodations, some meals and a snow card good for 10 percent off some services.

Programs this year include the Old Faithful Winter Expedition with rates starting at $929 per person; the Winter Rendezvous at Mammoth with rates starting at $879; the Family Winter Holiday at Mammoth, $867 for adults and $481 per child; the Winter Wildlife Expedition out of Mammoth with rates starting at $579 per person; Yellowstone on Skis out of Mammoth starting at $1,059 per person; the Winter Wolf Discovery out of Mammoth with rates starting at $579 per person; and the Winter in Wonderland at both Mammoth and Old Faithful starting at $1,209 per person.

Xanterra also offers a variety of self-guided winter packages as well as lodging and transportation options for those who want to explore the park on their own.
