A Salt Lake City jury has found a 19-year-old man guilty of second-degree felony aggravated assault and second-degree felony obstruction of justice in connection with the 2007 road-rage shooting of a Millcreek man.

Reynaldo Thomas Martinez Jr. faces two to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 14 before 3rd District Judge Deno Himonas.

Martinez Jr. was convicted of shooting 21-year-old Marcus Bucio in the back outside the Arbor Lane Apartment Complex at 3637 S. 900 East on June 4, 2007. Bucio survived the attack.

Witnesses reported seeing Martinez Jr. and his father, 37-year-old Reynaldo Martinez Sr., arguing with the victim prior to the shooting, according to Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies. Martinez Jr. fired at Bucio, then drove away in a Cadillac, accompanied by his father.

The two were later arrested in Durango, Colo., and extradited to Utah.

Reynaldo Thomas Martinez Sr. was charged with second-degree felony obstruction of justice for the incident, but the case against him was dismissed in January after the state could not produce witnesses.

Jurors convicted Martinez Jr. after a three-day trial earlier this month. The jury, however, found him innocent of first-degree felony attempted murder. The two charges of which he was convicted were enhanced by the use of a dangerous weapon during the attack, which could mean additional prison time.
